Fascinating Times
Holy Cow! A Delaware judge nixed Hunter Biden’s plea deal. Kudos. He pled not guilty. Who’da thunk it?
Headline from nypost.com: “‘How things have changed’: Pre-teen millionaire is planning her retirement party and 12th birthday at the same time.” Feeling inadequate or lame? Here’s the Aussie entrepreneur, photo from Google Images:
Is this finally proof? From NYP: “‘Did not originate on this earth’: Bombshell details of Pentagon UFO recovery to be revealed to Congress.”
Yet another modern relationship term, from an NYP article by Alexandra Klausner: “Benching” — “You like them, you just don’t like them enough to prioritize them.” Ouch.

RIP Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Lujack, 98. Born in Pennsylvania, he not only was a four-sport star in high school — he was class valedictorian! He went to Notre Dame, his college playing career interrupted for two years by WWII. He served in the Navy. A quarterback, he led the Fighting Irish to three national championships — even though he was of Polish descent. He lettered in four sports in college as well: baseball, basketball, track the others. He played only four years in the NFL, all for the Bears. According to his Wiki profile, he wanted to repay the debt he felt he owed ND coach Frank Leahy by becoming an assistant at his alma mater. When he was passed over for the head coaching position after the ’53 season, he moved on, going into the car dealership business with his father-in-law. He did NFL color commentary on TV with Chris Schenkel from ‘58-’61 and did college games into the late ‘60’s. Here are other honors he was accorded: AP Athlete of the Year (1947), First-team All-Pro (1950), two-times Pro Bowl (1950, 1951), NFL passing touchdowns leader (1949), NFL passing yards leader (1949). NFL rushing touchdowns leader (1950), 100 greatest Bears of All-Time, member of the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame. He was a dad of three. Awesome, Sir. Photo from GI:
The temperature was 78 when I left the apartment, so I knew the floating book shop wouldn’t be a problem, especially once the shade covered the entire nook. My thanks to Dina, who did a swap of Russian hardcovers, and to Angelo and his son Robbie, who bought Mayor, an autobio by Edward I. Koch, and Those Angry Days: Roosevelt, Lindbergh, and America’s Fight Over World War II, 1939–1941 by Lynne Olson. Robbie, an honor student who does volunteer work, recently received an award from Mayor Adams. He will be majoring in Poly Sci at Brooklyn College come September. He says he’s not going into politics, thank heavens. Kudos, young man… The session also was brightened by Romania-born artist Andu, who was carrying a sketchbook and markers. I told him a former co-worker had become so proficient at drawing a cariacature of me that he was able to do it in 20 seconds. He did this in 30. I left my big sunglasses in place:
