Fighting to Stay Positive

In an op-ed piece at nypost.com, Kyle Smith informs of a new book by James Hasson, a former Army captain who served in Afghanistan: Stand Down: How Social Justice Warriors Are Sabotaging the Military. Here are highlights, edited by yours truly: “He takes a look at such matters as drastically lowering standards in order to pass more women through Army Ranger school, ignoring data showing that all-male Marine units outperformed mixed-sex ones and that female recruits are more likely to suffer serious injuries… He cites a program in which male soldiers were ordered to train in fake breasts and distended bellies so they could experience what life was like for pregnant soldiers (WTF?)… Ordering a recruit to do more than 10 pushups as punishment for minor misdeeds was declared unduly harsh.” I don’t think there’s anything that can be done to stop what is now an avalanche of liberalism. We’re stuck with it. Those who oppose it can only hope it isn’t as disastrous as it seems. Man, that article brought my head down. I don’t want to be a pessimist about America.

Is this racist? From a headline at foxnews.com: “Bernie Sanders says he’d back US funding for Third World abortions, birth control as part of climate plan.”

Here’s the most amusing headline of the day, from FN: “Vegetarians, vegans have higher stroke risk than meat eaters, study claims.” Carnivores take heart.

Last night in MLB: the Cincinnati Reds’ Michael Lorenzen joined Babe Ruth as the only players ever to earn a win as a pitcher, hit a home run and play a position in the field during a game. His night didn’t start out positive, as he was charged with a blown save after allowing a game-tying home run in the seventh, but he was in line for the win after teammate Jose Iglesias homered a half-inning later. In the eighth he pitched a scoreless frame, then padded the lead with a two-run dinger in the bottom half. Reds manager David Bell moved him to center field in the ninth as a defensive upgrade. Obviously, Lorenzen is a great athlete.

My thanks to the gentleman who bought a pictorial on the use of leather in art, and five books in Russian; and to the woman who purchased a cookbook; and to the elderly Latina who selected another thriller, Obsession Falls by Christina Dodd; and to the Quiet Man, who took home six DVDs; and to Andu, who chose two; and to the woman who donated about 100 children books, all in excellent condition.
