For the Birds
Old adage that dates to at least John Ray’s Hand-book of Proverbs (1670): “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”
Headline from nypost.com: “Bird poops on Biden as prez claims US is in the dumps because of Putin.”
Headline from foxnews.com: “Venice seagull problem leads to squirt gun distribution at high-end hotels.”
This had me googling for a bird joke. I like this one:
Little Johnny’s father asks him if he knows about the birds and the bees.
“I don’t want to know!” Little Johnny says, bursting into tears.
Confused, his father asks what’s wrong.
“Oh, Dad,” Little Johnny sobs, “first, there was no Santa Claus, then no Easter Bunny, and finally, no Tooth Fairy. If you’re about to tell me that grownups don’t really have sex, I’ve got nothing left to believe in.” Cheer up, Johnny. Here’s good news from the greatest writer who ever lived: “Birds do it, bees do it/ Even educated fleas do it…” Let’s Do It, words and lyrics Cole Porter.
Here’s an image of vultures:
And one of a predator:
Headline from FN: “SPECIAL DELIVERY: First Texas bus drops migrants blocks from Biden’s door.” And some accused Governor Abbott of bluffing. Kudos. “The eagle has landed?”
Great day to do business curbside. My thanks to the kind folks who combined to buy six books in Russian, and to the woman who bought two kids books; and to Bus Driver, who purchased The 6th Target by James Patterson & Maxine Paetro and Dark of the Moon by John Sandford; and to the home attendant of the surviving braniac brother, who delivered an obscure large paperback novel I’ve brought home to read.
