Driven to drink, headline from nypost.com: “Glass half full: NYC liquor stores were ‘crazy’ busy on election night — with workers revealing one bizarre trend among customers.” According to the article by Nicole Rosenthal and Katherine Donlevy: “…sparkling wine and a bottle of liquor for both outcomes.”

Some folks are blessed with foresight. According to an NYP article by Maria Siegler, edited by yours truly: “Larry Warsh loved Keith Haring’s subway drawings so much that he tried to carefully peel one away. That moment began a collection that is now going up for sale at Sotheby’s and is expected to sell for some $10 million…” Warsh lived in the Downtown artistic mecca of Astor Place and coveted Haring’s now-iconic angels, spaceships and babies, illegally drawn on pieces of black paper used to cover unsold ad space…” Warsh wound up buying them from people who successfully removed them without damage, paying in the thousands, a tidy profit. Haring passed away at 31 in 1990. Here’s an example, photo from NYP:

So far, of all the lampoons, this is my favorite, culled from a private message on my Facebook feed. I don’t know the origin of the pic. I apologize to whoever shot it:

There is also a hilarious video that uses the pay phone booth scene in Goodfellas (1990), where the above uses the receiver as a hammer after learning his friend was whacked.

Among today’s celebrations, it’s National Author’s Day. Ahem. I don’t like to brag but…

Last night Grit, channel 31–3 on OTA in NYC, ran Rough Night in Jericho (1967), a mediocre western notable for the villainy of Dean Martin’s character, who at one point slaps Jean Simmons’ character silly. It was discomfiting. I much prefer the charming rogues he so deftly played, but I wonder if he enjoyed the segue to the dark side. Amusing note: the story takes place over several days. Here are George Peppard, Dino & the lovely Simmons in character, photo from Google Images:

Headline from foxnews.com: “Hollywood elite who vowed to leave US if Trump won are ‘all talk, no walk,’ expert says.” Anyone surprised?

A couple of late sales led to a decent haul at today’s session of the Anti-Inflation Book Shop on yet another gorgeous day. My thanks to the woman who bought The Once and Future King by T. H. White, and to the one who treated her son to 3D Batman art; and to the lovely young woman who purchased two Russian-English instructional booklets; and to the woman who, as usual, overcompensated me for her selections in Russky. I left a couple of bags of books hidden in the garden. The lack of rain has made it safe.
