Free Speech & All

SMH. Headline from nypost.com: “Slippery slope: Germans are being arrested for insulting politicians — we need to protect free speech so it never happens here.” Every German opposed to this should begin insulting their leaders until the slimes surrender… In the same vein, headline from foxnews.com: “Mississippi judge orders local paper to remove editorial critical of city council.”

No surprise. From NYP: “Border Patrol sees uptick in egg smuggling on southern border as prices skyrocket.” Aside from an egg salad sandwich every few months, I don’t consume them.

RIP actress Alice Hirson, 95. A native New Yorker, she is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She began in off-Broadway shows and eventually advanced to The Great White Way. There are 87 titles under her name at IMDb, screen career spanning 1951–2021. She was a constant presence on TV: 43 episodes of Another World, 65 of One Life to Live, 13 of The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Do, 26 of Dallas, 28 of Ellen, eight of 7th Heaven, six of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and she made numerous guest appearances on popular primetime fare. On the big screen she had roles in Being There (1979), Private Benjamin (1980), Revenge of the Nerds (1984), Blind Date (1987) to name a few. Married twice, she was a mom of two. Awesome, Madam. Thank you. Photo from Google Images:

Here’s a great subject for a poll. Headline from FN: “Controversial Dem lawmaker calls Trump voters ‘less educated’.”

Excerpts from an FN article by Marc Tamasco: “MSNBC’s parent company, NBCUniversal, recently settled a lawsuit against them after the outlet claimed Georgia gynecologist Dr. Mahendra Amin performed unnecessary hysterectomies at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) center.” And: “The settlement comes weeks after a Florida jury found that CNN committed defamation against U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young…” Young is a security consultant who helped Afghans escape after the Taliban takeover in 2021.

The bad guy redux. Caption from an article about Kathie Lee: “In 1994, Trump sent his helicopter to fly Gifford and her newborn daughter to his hotel so they could evade a stalker who threatened to kill her.”

The wind finally relented and the Anti-Inflation Book Shop returned to its regular nook. I don’t know if it was the lengthy absence, but a lot of folks ponied up today. My thanks to the buyers and to the woman who pulled her car to the curb and donated two bags of books, half of which went to the free kiosk. Here’s what sold: several books in Russian, including a translation of a Mary Higgins Clarke mystery; a box set of five novels by Madeleine L’Engle, including A Wrinkle in Time; Twisted by Jonathan Kellerman; The Statistical Possibility of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith; Utopia by Thomas More; Haunted by Chuck Pahlaniuk; a Cream concert DVD; a George Michael CD; a piece of 3D art; and By the Numbers by Yours Truly.
