From media critic Phil Mushnick’s column at nypost.com: “Monday night’s NCAA Championship began with the public address announcer inviting those “willing and able to please rise.” The option — the freedom — to stay seated was always available, now it comes with a reminder.” Kudos. Black students remained seated during its playing before the home games of my alma mater, WMU, in the early ‘70’s. Once, the group raised a continuous howl. I sensed it was provocation, anger at being ignored. In all the games I attended, I don’t recall a single objection to the behavior.

Snippet from an article at newsmax.com: “… as many as 89,000 households moved out of San Francisco between March and November 2020.” And here’s another that should be no surprise, that everyone saw coming: “Online Scammers Selling Fake COVID-19 Vaccine Cards.”

Headline from foxnews.com: “Libs call for lib Justice Breyer’s retirement after he pans court packing.” Independent thinking not allowed.

Catfight in Sri Lanka, from an article at FN by Melissa Roberto, edited by yours truly: The reigning Mrs. World took action at the country’s 2021 pageant to see who would represent it in the big show. She took the crown from the winner and placed it on the head of the runner up, reasoning that the rules state the divorced are ineligible. The woman in questioned declared that she is separated, not divorced. Although the exchange was hardly physical, it led to the arrest of Mrs. World on charges of “simple hurt and criminal force.” She was released on bail and ordered to return to court later this month. The crown was restored to, as George Costanza described his mom, the “separatee`.” This brings to mind the memorable episode of Seinfeld in which Elaine went toe to toe with Raquel Welch.

Here’s one of the reasons I love life despite its heartaches and travails. Sometimes things happen that are delightful in their oddity. Guess what the number one book on the NY Times Best Seller list is. It’s the second title from Fox News Books, written by its eleven PM news anchor:

Not much action at the floating book shop on this cloudy day. My thanks to the woman who donated a Reader’s Digest compilation of condensed novels in hardcover, and to the one who bought a picture frame; and to the gentleman in the mechanized wheelchair who purchased a pictorial on aquariums. The highlight of the session was a neat bit of trivia relayed to me by Movie Buff. Steve McQueen did his own motorcycle stunts in The Great Escape (1963). He also did those of the German who was following him. Ah, the magic of movies — love it!
