According to an article at foxnews.com, an amusing incident has occurred in the Georgia senate race. This weekend’s top collegiate game in Athens, Ga. will pit the third-ranked Bulldogs against top-ranked Tennessee. Herschel Walker was All-America, winner of the Heisman Trophy, at Georgia. He called out his opponent, Raphael Warnock, whose campaign bus has Tennessee plates! I doubt it will make a difference in the race, which is forecast as neck and neck, but one wonders how it was allowed to happen. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a picture.

It seems we have not only fentanyl to worry about. Headline and caption from FN: “Alcohol death rate in US is rising, government reports say.”
“A CDC report found the rate of related deaths rose by 26% in the first year of the pandemic.”

RIP Redskins DT Dave Butz, 72. Born in Alabama, he played collegiately at Purdue, where he was All-Big Ten. He was taken by the Cardinals with the fifth selection of 1973 draft. He was acquired by the Skins two years later. He was a member of two Super Bowl Champions. Here are more of his accomplishments: First-team All-Pro (1983), Second-team All-Pro (1984), Pro Bowl (1983), NFL 1980s All-Decade Team, 80 Greatest Redskins, Washington Redskins Ring of Fame. In 16 pro seasons he had 64 sacks and two interceptions. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Well done, sir. Photo from Google Images:

The weather is spoiling folks, including yours truly. What a day to conduct business curbside, not a breath of wind. My thanks to the gentleman whose family is moving to North Carolina, who donated two boxes of primo titles, a mix of classics, modern serious gems, and notable sci-fi/fantasy. I managed to fit two-thirds into the old Hyundai with the rest of the inventory. I won’t be surprised if the axle breaks. My thanks also to the woman who bought a new fangled Bible and a medical tome; and to my Constant Benefactress, who purchased a children’s book; and to Wolf, who asked for a grammar book for a friend newly-arrived from Ukraine. The highlight of the session was a deal I brokered. A month or so ago Gonzo asked if I knew anyone who sold Morgan Silver Dollars. His dad had given him a batch long ago and they were recently stolen by a drug addict cousin. I immediately thought of Andy F-Bomb, a collector of coins and other valuable wares, who at the time was at his house upstate, where he spends the summer and early Fall. A few days later he returned and, sure enough, he had the coins. He finally gave me four on Monday. They were minted in the late 1800s and are engraved with an indian in full headdress. The number of feathers is a determinant in value, seven or eight, if I remember correctly. He priced the set at $170, ten dollars more than the $40-per Gonzo wanted to pay. The latter took them anyway and gave me $180. The two men didn’t even meet. I wanted to return the extra ten bucks, but Gonzo wouldn’t hear of it. My thanks, vato. Here’s a pic of one that has nine feathers, photo from Ebay, where it’s priced at $59:
