I wonder if a political motive is behind the investigations into NYC mayor Adams’ aides. Corruption is usually overlooked. Is it revenge for having complained about being inundated with migrants?

Amusing headline from nypost.com: “Winona Ryder reveals why her parents refused to relocate her to LA as a child: ‘Very wary of Hollywood’.” Given her shop-lifting past, it didn’t work.

From NYP: “Longtime California Dem leader says ‘adios’ to her party and registers with GOP because ‘I’ve had enough’.” But will she vote like a Republican on most issues? I’d be very surprised. Another Rino.

Among today’s many celebrations, it’s National Read a Book Day. May I suggest:

Surprising headline out of California from foxnews.com: “Newsom vetoes controversial bill that would have given housing loans to illegal immigrants.” He got one right.

There was a treat last night on PBS, The Abominable Bride, a Sherlock episode first broadcast on New Year’s Day 2016, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and all the other superb supporting players. What made it different than the other 14 episodes in the series was that it was not set in modern London but moved back in time to match Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s period — “The game is afoot.” There were amusing quirks: Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gatiss) was now a fat, gluttonous bastard, as devious as ever; and coroner Hooper (Louise Brealy) was disguised as a male, as women were not in such professions back then. Fun stuff. Photos from Google Images:

I completed the second hand-written draft of my latest short story, Number One Grandson last night, and typed it into the By the Numbers book file this morning. It is now just shy of 24,000 words, still at least 2000 short for a print copy. I will not resubmit a file to Amazon until I have enough for a print version. I’ll email the Number One Grandson file to those who bought the ebook.

More great weather for doing curbside business, mostly cloudy and breezy. My thanks to the folks who took home 3D art, and to The Quiet Man, who bought an edition of the Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and a mix of DVDs and CDs; and to the woman who purchased Davita’s Harp by Chaim Potok; and to the one who selected a tome on Kabbala in Russian; and to the one who chose Personality: What Makes You the Way You Are by Daniel Nettle; and to the one who opted for a large self-help paperback whose title eludes me; and to Sam, who donated two Broadway-themed books; and to Lynn, who gave me another bottle of water.
