Trivia: Who is this foxy pop singer whose MTV video catapulted her song to the top of the charts in 1982? Man, I love this picture, which reminds me of a young Cathy Moriarty. From Google Images:

Does this make sense? Headline from nypost.com: “With Yahya Sinwar dead, Israel and Gaza can have a future without war.” I hope it’s true, but it seems to fly in the face of history.

Good news from NYP: “Drug overdose deaths fall for 10 months straight, down 17% in NY: CDC.”

Is this something to worry about or is it business as usual? Headline from foxnews.com: “Already this year, store closures in the U.S. outnumber openings, something not seen in 2023 or 2022.” A lot of them are drug chains, which may not be able to compete with web vendors or overcome mass theft.

DT had fun today poking fun at Harris’ claim about having worked at McDonald’s. I wonder if people are gonna get on his case about not wearing a hat or hairnet. Photo from GI:

Trivia answer: Tony Basil, whose Mickey was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She never had another hit, but she’s done choreography for David Bowie, Tina Turner, Bette Midler and a variety of major movies from That Thing You Do! (1996) to Legally Blonde (2001) to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). Born Antonia Christina Basilotta in ’43, she had roles in Easy Rider (1969) and Five Easy Pieces (1970). She directed two shorts and ten music videos, including three by the Talking Heads, one by Linda Ronstadt, and three of her own, including her big hit. She was head cheerleader at Las Vegas High School and wears her actual varsity uniform from those days in the Mickey video. Facts from IMDb and an article by Olivia Monahan at msm.com. Here is Basil in character with Peter Fonda in the iconic film:

Ideal weather did not lead to brisk business for the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. I gave away way more stuff than I sold. My thanks to my Constant Benefactress, who bought Audience-ology: How Moviegoers Shape the Films We Love by Kevin Goetz and Darlene Hayman. I still left a number of items hidden in the garden.
