Ganache & More
Here’s the latest rage in NYC baked goods — the Suprême, a circular croissant filled with pastry crème and topped with ganache and crushed up cookies. I had to look up Ganache, a mixture of chocolate and cream in equal parts by weight. Photo from Google Images:
No surprise headline from nypost.com: “Most illegal immigrants do not qualify for US asylum.” They want work, free stuff, or both.
NYP headline: “Mom runs active shooter drill with son, 5, using bulletproof backpack: ‘Our terrifying reality’.” Sad but necessary, again.
It’s satisfying that Trump-hater Liz Cheney was trounced in the Wyoming House primary. She lost by 38 points. She will now cease to be of use to Dems, who can return to calling the Cheneys evil.
Headline from newsmax.com: “Data: Nearly 2M Fewer Students Attended US Public Schools After Pandemic.”
RIP ace filmmaker Wolfgang Petersen, 81. Born in Germany, son of a naval officer, his career spanned 1965–2016. There are 30 titles under his name at IMDb in the category of Director, 14 Producer, 12 Writer. He had a solid career going in his homeland, then attracted worldwide attention with Das Boot (1981), as good a war film ever made, problematic for some, as the focus was the crew of a Nazi submarine. It garnered Oscar nominations for his Direction and Screenplay, and brought him opportunities in Hollywood, where he made several quality films: The NeverEnding Story (1984), Enemy Mine (1985), whose stature has grown; In the Line of Fire (1993) and Air Force One (1997), routine stories elevated by great skill; and The Perfect Storm (2000), which had two Oscar nominations in tech categories. Troy (2004) grossed $497.4 million worldwide. Married twice, Petersen is a father of one. Well done, sir. Thank you. Photo from GI:
I didn’t play it smart today at the floating book shop. I put out all the wares despite the threating sky. Then it rained, first for five minutes, then 15. I decided to pack up and go home. The precipitation stopped when I’d put about 75% of the stuff back into the old Hyundai, so I stayed, although I was bummed despite the pleasant turn in the weather. Then a woman with a Russian accent raised my spirits, asking if I had anything by Judith McNaught. Fortunately the box that contained the two paperbacks had not been put away. I didn’t think I’d ever sell them. My thanks, and to the woman who bought two titles on proper diet for Diabetics… A California girl, McNaught, 78, has written more than 20 historical and contemporary romance novels. There are 30 million copies of her works in print. Her most recent was published in 2018. Photo from GI:
