RIP General Raymond T. Odierno, 67, a New Jersey native who succumbed to cancer. He led the successful surge in the Iraq War. Thank you, sir.

Headline from nypost.com that speaks for itself: “Splash of green: Hunter Biden’s art gallery got $500K federal COVID loan.”

Priorities in this NYP headline: “Mom awarded $4.9M after son’s death, then bought guns for her other son’s gang.”

More absurdity, NYP headline: “No takers: Affordable NYC housing project sits empty for more than two years.”

The tragi-comedy continues courtesy of NYP: “At least 9 Rikers inmates recently freed by Gov. Hochul have been rearrested.”

Want more?: “NYC orders educators to find more than 150K students ‘missing’ from schools.”

And these excerpts from an article by Michael Shellenberger, edited by yours truly: San Francisco provides addicts with the cash, housing and paraphernalia to purchase and use deadly drugs. Last year 712 people died in the city by the bay from an overdose or poisoning. Nationwide 93,000 in America died in 2021 from illicit drugs, a more than five-fold increase from the 17,000 in 2000. Shellenberger’s argument is that incarceration works better, and stats seem to bear it out.

Wait a second headline from newsmax.com: “Last Six Months for Antarctica Coldest on Record.” Oh — I forgot. It’s no longer global warming but climate change.

Last night the Heroes & Icons channel ran A Walk with an Eagle, season three, episode 24 of Combat! It was okay. The guest star’s face was familiar but I was unable to recall his name. Lee Phillips had a remarkable career, mostly in TV. Born in NYC as Leon Friedman, son of Russian-Jewish immigrants, there are 53 titles under his name in the category of Actor, which includes multiple appearances on popular prime time fare; 72 as director, as he helmed seemingly every series in the ‘60’s and 70’s at least once, scores in total; and three as a writer, including The American Girls, which he created but which shot only six episodes. He passed away at 72 in 1999. Kudos, sir.

According to an article by Andrew Mark Miller at foxnews.com, there’s an amusing social media trend going viral. It’s origin is an interview NBC reporter Kelli Stavast did last week with Brandon Brown after he captured his first ever victory, which was at Alabama’s Talladega Superspeedway. People began an anti-Biden chant that has become a staple of events nationwide. Stavast said it was “Let’s go, Brandon!” And she became the butt of jokes. Now the chant has switched to her words. Here’s a pic of what it was originally. No one would have to buy a vowel. Is this more evidence of the deterioration of America? Civility may not be dead but it’s on life support:

The floating book shop was rained out today.
