Prices may be down at the pump, but anyone who visits the supermarket will not be surprised by the latest inflation number, 8.3%.

It’s hilarious how Dems are avoiding Biden while campaigning, hoping constituents won’t realize their voting records and Quid Pro Joe’s are an exact match.

Headline from nypost.com: “Russian energy exec dies in fall from boat in latest mystery death, days after Putin forum.”

Let’s see women wear this tape on the street, photo from Google Images:

RIP French film icon Jean-Luc Godard, 91. He began by writing articles, including for the world-famous Les cahiers du cinéma. He was part of the New Wave. I won’t pretend to be a fan. Perhaps his work is simply over my head. I don’t get it, even his most famous flick Breathless (1960). I bailed early on Contempt (1963), even though it starred Brigitte Bardot. I should probably watch Alphaville (1965) again, as I caught part of it on channel five one day and found it interesting in an offbeat way. Perhaps this quote explains my befuddlement with his work: “A story should have a beginning, a middle and an end, but not necessarily in that order.” Still, he is considered a master by many. There are an astonishing 131 titles under his name at IMDb in the category of Director, 98 as Writer, 54 as Editor, 47 as Actor, 29 as Producer, nine as Cinematographer. He made tons of shorts, documentaries. Here’s another quote attributed to him: “There is no point in having sharp images when you’ve fuzzy ideas.” And another: “Cinema is the most beautiful fraud in the world.”

The rain moved out and the floating book shop was a go. My thanks to the young woman who bought six cookbooks and Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes; and to the home attendant of the surviving Braniac Brother, who donated two books. The highlight of the session was personal info divulged by Alan, a retired cabbie in his mid 70’s. When he and his wife came down with Covid, given his stents and all, they were sent to NYU Langone, where subsequent tests revealed a benign growth on a lung and stage two pancreatic cancer. An eight-hour operation ensued. He’s now had ten sessions of chemo. He has high praise for the hospital. He’s lost 50 pounds, down to 171. All the best, sir.
