I doubt there will be a more amusing headline in today’s news than this from nypost.com: “Explaining to do: Gold bars found in Sen. Bob Menendez’s home linked to 2013 armed robbery: report.”

RIP Denny Laine, 79, singer, songwriter, musician. Born Brian Frederick Arthur Hines in the UK, he was performing by age twelve. He played guitar, bass, keyboards and harmonica. In 1964 he was a founding member of The Moody Blues and sang lead on Go Now, which hit #10 in the U.S. in 1965, #1 in the UK. To this day it’s a good listen. Laine left the group in ’66, going solo, also putting in time with Ginger Baker’s Air Force. In ’71 he and Paul and Linda McCartney formed Wings. He co-wrote Mull of Kintyre with McCartney. It hit #1 in the UK and ten other countries. He remained with the band throughout its ten-year run. It won six Grammys and sold approximately 14 million records worldwide, seven earning platinum status, nine gold. He then went solo again, although he continued to assist McCartney. He was a father of five. Well done, Sir. Photo from Google Images:

Selling short — from NYP: “Hamas may have reaped financial windfall betting against Israeli stocks ahead of Oct. 7 attack: report.” Diabolical.

I worked at the Commodity Exchange in lower Manhattan for more than 20 years, the last ten or so in the Gold Futures market. I was let go in November 2007 when electronic trading was making open outcry obsolete. Gold has been trading above $2000 an ounce lately and hit a record high of $2135 in Asia yesterday. The pits would be rockin’ were the old ways still in effect. Photo from GI. I know most of those people:

Among the celebrations of 12/5, it’s Bathtub Party Day. Here’s my open invitation to any beautiful woman. Eternal icon photo from GI:

Due to the absence of sunshine, I spent most of today’s session of the floating book shop in the car. My thanks to the woman who bought two kids’ books, and to the kind folks who combined to buy three books and five DVDs in Russian; and to the woman who purchased The New Professional Chef by The Culinary Institute of America and Mary Deirdre Donovan; and to the one who chose Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger; and to the gentleman who took home the size 9–1/2 Rockports; and to The Frenchman, who selected Mastering the Art of French Cooking Volume II by Julia Child & Simone Beck. I am blessed.
