RIP NFL Hall of Famer Ray Guy, 72. Born in Georgia, he was All-America at Southern Mississippi in 1972, handling the punting and place-kicking. He was the first punter ever selected in the first round of the draft, the 23rd pick. He played his entire 13-year career with the Raiders and was a member of three Super Bowl champions. Here are more of his accomplishments: First-team All-Pro six times, second-team twice; seven Pro Bowl appearances; NFL 1970s All-Decade Team; NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team; NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. In 2000 The Ray Guy Award was established, awarding the nation’s leading collegiate punter. He is the father of a son and daughter. Awesome, sir.

How noble of Quid Pro Joe to condemn rioting — two-and-a-half years after hundreds of them helped get him elected.

Headline from newsmax.com: “Liberal Wash Post Admits GOP Loves Trump, Dems Dislike Biden.”

NM headline about Connecticut’s Trinity College: “College Removes American Flags from Dorm Window, Allows Pride Flags.”

From an NM article by Brian Pfail, edited by yours truly: “A recent report from the Hoover Institution showed an exodus of company headquarters from California to escape the high tax rate and regulations… business headquarters in 2021 left at twice the rate in both 2020 and 2019, and at three times the rate in 2018.”

Unsurprising headline from nypost.com: “Mainstream media gives GOP negative press 87% of the time in midterm run-up: study.”

I doubt we’ll ever know if Covid was a direct attack on the USA. Now comes this, headline from foxnews.com: “US Customs finds dangerous invasive species on board ship from China.” And the caption below it: “The species has the potential to inflict widespread damage to agriculture and natural resources.”

Is Bibi Netanyahu’s victory in Israel an omen for the American election? We’ll soon find out.

From FN, another political “Do as I say, not as I do” headline: “UN brushes off concerns about upcoming climate summit’s ‘huge carbon footprint’.”

The awesome weather continues. My thanks to Movie Buff, who bought a Reader’s Digest collection of four condensed novels; and to The Quiet Man, who purchased the Glee 2 CD, one by Michael Buble, and The Midnight Library #5: Liar by Damien Graves; and to the gentleman who took home two hardcovers in Russian; and to the woman who donated several books on grammar; and to the one who did a swap… For at least a month a young man with whom I’ve been acquainted seemed in better health mentally than I’d ever seen him. That ended a couple of days ago. Today I spoke to his mom, a Romanian immigrant who taught English for 21 years, who said the good spell actually lasted seven months. Hospitalized, he is not doing well, refusing to take his meds, in denial about his affliction. She claims she would be hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt if not for measures instituted by Obama. When I said “I don’t know how you do it,” she replied: “You can leave your country, divorce your husband, but you can’t divorce your son.” Unfortunately, her ex, living in Europe, wants no part of his son. I’m not one who believes life is generally unfair, but it is for some. Imagine having to go such constant grief.
