All of the following were gleaned from foxnews.com. Each is followed by a comment from yours truly.

Thomas Jefferson’s hometown of Charlottesville, Va., will no longer mark his birthday… 200+ years later, one of America’s greatest presidents is judged by 21st century political correctness.

Missouri man celebrates pothole’s 3rd birthday… Love this guy. Richly deserved, gentle lampoon of government.

Kentucky tells church giving away used glasses to homeless it is breaking law… It’s better for them to go without glasses completely? Government in a nutshell.

Not guilty verdict for Navy SEAL Gallagher… One cleared, hopefully two more accused soldiers to follow.

Mets rally in 8th…, beat Yankees 4–2… Pass the smelling salts.

Washington, Montana, Vermont top new list for most UFO sightings… Scully!

Indian man, 20, wakes up at his own funeral after being pronounced dead by doctors… A spokesman said: “The patient is in critical condition but definitely not brain dead. He has pulse, blood pressure and his reflexes are working. He has been put on ventilator support.” Does not exactly inspire confidence in the doctors.

Putin signs bill withdrawing from nuclear arms treaty with the United States… They would have adhered to it every bit as much as Iran did.

Kim Kardashian awarded millions in knockoff lawsuit… Nice to see the little guy win one for a change.

And here’s a chart:

It looked like today’s session of the floating book shop would be a bummer sales-wise, then Eileen and her dog Teddy showed just before closing time. She bought A Hitch in Twilight despite my warning that it might be too hardcore for her. She also selected The Bachelor by Carly Phillips and Eyes Only by Fern Michaels. My thanks, and also to Wolf, who purchased Russian non-fiction about a cancer survivor; and to The Quiet Man, who selected Robin Hood, a condensed issue of Howard Pyle’s version of the fable, geared toward young adults.
