This may be the most amusing headline of the day, from foxnews.com: “Progressives like Sanders not happy with Biden’s Syria strike.” And here’s the least surprising: “Kamala Harris silent on Cuomo allegations after ‘grandstanding’ at Kavanaugh hearings.”

Here’s an excerpt from an FN article by Greg Norman (not the golfer): “The woman who became the Army’s first female infantry officer is now speaking out against lowering fitness standards for females in a test that evaluates troops’ combat readiness, arguing that doing so would ‘not only undermine their credibility, but also place those women, their teammates and the mission at risk.’” I’ll quote the main character from one of my novels, Killing: “Give them steroids.”

After more than a week’s absence from my usual curbside sales nook, I finally landed an appropriate parking spot for the endeavor. For two hours it looked like it would be a disappointing session, then the floodgates opened. Here’s some of what sold: Ragnar Lothbrok and a History of the Vikings: Viking Warriors including Rollo, Norsemen, Norse Mythology, Quests in America, England, France, Scotland, Ireland and Russia by Noah Brown, Film Tricks: Special Effects in the Movies by Harold Schechter and David Everitt; a pictorial on New York; three books in Russian; a Harry Belafonte bio; two cook books; The Bingo Palace by Louise Erditch; The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards; How to Win at the Races: Education of a Horseplayer by Sam Lewin; five GMAT study guides. My thanks to the buyers, and to the gentleman who donated about ten books, several of which are large print editions; and to local super Nick, who allowed me to take about 100 books in Russian, most in hardcover, from a vacant apartment. It was tough hauling them away, stupid even, given my age, but they were too good for my Sicilian genes to pass up. Fortunately, there was a small, wheeled travel bag in the flat. That helped a lot. On the block-long trek home, I stopped at the old Hyundai and left a box on the front passenger seat.
