Hearts
Sometimes a picture says it all. Here is Charles Laughton as Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939):
Israeli scientists have created a 3D rabbit’s heart. The hope is that this will lead to the creation of human organs that will make transplants unnecessary. Kudos. Long live Israel! Here’s a pic:
How’s this for irony? NY’s Governor Cuomo, who has derided the Trump tax cuts as damaging to the Empire State, is one of the winners of the move. In 2018 he paid $2627 less than in ’17. Also on the tax front, Bernie Sanders has released his 2018 return. He and his Mrs. earned $550,000. They are one-percenters.
How I hope President Trump follows through on his threat to send illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities.
Hockey is so different from other pro sports. Here’s another example why. On Thursday Cale Makar, 20-year-old sophomore at UMass Amherst, was named the winner of the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in college. On Saturday his team lost to Minnesota Duluth in the national title game. On Sunday he signed a three-year entry level contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Last night on home ice the Calgary native scored his first NHL goal against his hometown Flames late in the first period of Game 3 of the opening round of the playoffs. Here’s the reaction of his parents:
RIP Al the Mensch, who was in his early 70’s. He frequently stopped to chat at the floating book shop, and often bought, donated or swapped books. He preferred weighty stuff, usually history. He loved baseball and frequently used mass transit to get to college doubleheaders, undeterred by having to use a walker. Thank you, sir.
I’m getting spoiled. It was a fifth straight day of good business. My thanks to my constant benefactress, who donated a mix of words and music, and to the Russian couple who did the same of works in their first language; and to the burly gentleman who purchased four collections of the comics of Cathy Guisewhite; and to Stephen, the poet laureate of Sheepshead Bay, who bought The Essential Harold Pinter; and to the man who selected The Phantom of the Opera (2004) on DVD; and to Wolf, who chose a CD of Jewish folk songs; and to Ira, who took home pictorials on the space program and living well.
