Heat
This young NYC man did not want to return to Rikers Island prison and took an extreme measure to get away from cops. He survived but was caught. Photo from Google Images:
Last two lines from an nypost.com editorial on environmental zealots whose policies are ruinous to economies: “Historian Arnold Toynbee argued that civilizations die from suicide, not murder. The West’s climate self-destruction may prove him right.”
Headline from foxnews.com: “Jaws’ child star sworn in as police chief on Martha’s Vineyard.” Jonathan Searle played a prankster alongside his brother in the classic, his only credit, billed as “Boy Swimmer with Cardboard Fin.” Kudos, sir. Photo from GI:
With parking unavailable at my usual nook, it was a road trip for the floating book shop on day one of what is expected to be a long heat wave. I parked on 86th Street in the shade cast by both a tree and the elevated subway platform of the 25th Avenue station, across the street from Walgreens, where a young white male was arrested, no doubt for shoplifting. There was a nice breeze, so conditions were fairly benign. My thanks to the 72-year-old woman who bought Nothin’ but Good Times Ahead by journalist Molly Ivins, and two self-help books. After she left I was kicking myself for not having asked if she went to Lafayette or St. Mary’s. Duh!
