Heroes
Decades, channel 5–5 on over the air antennas in NYC, is running a Cheyenne marathon this weekend. It was one of my favorite shows. It ran from 1955-’62, 107 episodes, sharing its time slot on ABC with Bronco and Sugarfoot. Clint Walker had loads of presence in the lead. Handsome, chiseled, he was a natural for the small screen. I watched one full episode, which was so-so, and parts of others. One thought stood out — I wondered what his body count was during the series. I’ll probably watch some more tonight. Walker passed away at 90 in 2018. He served in the Merchant Marine as a teen during WWII, then worked in an oil field, as an undercover agent for a private eye — which must have been difficult given that he was six-six — and in security in Vegas, where he was encouraged by Hollywood folks to give acting a shot. He landed a part in The Ten Commandments (1956), which led to his being cast in the series that made him famous. Among the other 39 titles under his name at IMDb, only The Dirty Dozen (1967) stands out. Still, a great career. He was a hero to male baby-boomers.

Also from FN, edited by yours truly: In 2015 Philadelphia police officer Sgt. Robert Wilson III stopped in a Gamestop to buy a gift for his son and walked into a robbery in progress. Two suspects shot him to death. Now someone has defaced a mural honoring him, using BLM slogans. ACAB stands for “All Cops Are…” and FTP “F The Police.”
Folks avoided me as if they were afraid I were carrying the plague today on Bay Parkway. Maybe that explains the lack of business. My thanks to the woman brave enough to buy two kids’ books. The best thing that happened was landing one of the three best parking spots in terms of the book shop when I got back home. I won’t have to move the car until after Thursday’s session.
