Hot & Cold

Bjorn Lomborg is a common sense environmentalist. He believes climate change is caused by human activity and needs to be addressed. I’m not convinced it’s humans who are responsible, although it certainly may be so. I believe it’s just as likely caused by activity on the sun, the shift in the earth’s axis or natural evolution. Then again, who am I to say? Science was my worst subject. Anyway, lately the mainstream media has been focusing on deaths caused by heat, linking it to global warming. Here’s a snippet from Lomborg’s article today at nypost.com: “Each year, more than 100,000 people die from cold in the United States, and 13,000 in Canada — more than 40 cold deaths for every heat death.” How many have been saved from freezing to death since the emergence of fossil fuels?

Headline from foxnews.com: “NFL will include Black anthem, ramp up social justice messages.” Include me out. America’s civil war is still largely peaceful but heating up.

Government efficiency manifested in this FN headline: “NJ woman trying to prove she’s alive after 7 year-battle with IRS.” She’s 25. What’s the hurry?… Here’s another along the same lines: “Baton Rouge sues man over homemade levees, plans to bill him after dismantling them.” When the local government didn’t act, he did, trying to protect his house.

My thanks to Mike, who delivered a heavy cache of books, a third of it devoted to his passion for horseracing, another third to Jewish matters, and the final third to health, two huge tomes of which were purchased by a young woman. Another bought the first three volumes of Stephanie Meyers’ blockbuster Twilight series, and Wolf took home The Jewish Almanac. Meanwhile, this work of non-fiction by a long time Fox News host is number one on the NY Times list of hardcover best sellers:

Let’s close with a bit of humor from an email from a friend. Thanks, Marie”
