I Believe in You
RIP actor Robert Morse, 90. Born in Massachusetts, his career spanned 1949–2021. He made his Broadway debut in On the Town. He moved smoothly between stage and the big and small screen. He won two Tony Awards: in 1962 as Best Actor (Musical) for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, a role he recreated in the 1967 film version, and in 1990 as Best Actor (Play) for Tru, a one-man show in which he played Truman Capote, a performance he recreated in 1992 on TV in American Playhouse, which garnered him an Emmy. He was also nominated for three other Tonys and six other Emmys. He was in 74 episodes of Mad Men. He starred in 26 episodes of his own series, That’s Life, ‘68-’69. He did guest shots on many popular prime time shows, including two on Alfred Hitchcock Presents. He played author Dominick Dunne in a six-episode arc of American Crime Story. He was adept at voice-overs. Married twice, he is a dad of five. Well done, sir. Here he is in his signature role, J. Pierpont Finch in How to Succeed…, singing the great Frank Loesser’s infectious I Believe in You :
Headline from nypost.com: “A shocking number of pets are overdosing on weed, vets say.” That’s an unintended consequence of legalization I would never have foreseen.
Awesome quote in an NYP editorial: “… quips The Boston Herald’s Howie Carr. “Why do Democrats love masks so much? Always have, since they founded the Ku Klux Klan.”
Amusing headline from newsmax.com: “Tony Awards Issues ‘No Violence’ Warning Amid Oscars Slap.” Will that dampen ratings?”
This is the Trapp family of Minnesota. Guinness World Records has confirmed it’s the world’s tallest.
This morning there was a story of Trump walking out on an interview with Piers Morgan due to being pressed on false claims of election fraud. I believed he’d made a major error. Who has ever looked good doing something like that? Now it’s looking like the “newsman” edited the discussion, and that the ex-president’s team made an audio recording that proves the two parted amicably. And I don’t know what to think.
Good thing I bundled up. It was unexpectedly cool, especially given the lack of sunshine. The floating book shop’s three-day winning streak came to an end. My thanks to the woman who donated a hardcover in Russian, and to birthday girl Alice, who delivered one in English; and to Shelley, who bought Wish You Well by David Baldacci, a last minute sale that kept the session from being a goose egg.
