For the first time in a long while I’m going to learn a song on guitar, L-O-V-E (music Bert Kaempfert, lyrics Milt Gabler), a hit for Nat King Cole, covered by many artists. The version I found online is not the original composition but a simpler one. The only uncommon chord is a C-Diminished, and it is brief. As has been my wont in recent years, I will only take it to its break. In my first run through, it didn’t sound right. I use the two-finger Am7, the easiest for a dabbler. Such simplification does not always work. For instance, in Neil Sedaka/Howard Greenfied’s Calendar Girl, the easier F-Suspended does not sound right. Unfortunately, the three-fingered one is difficult and I often botch it. L-O-V-E deals with the ideal, eschews the negatives. Still, it is upbeat and beautiful from start to finish. The first couplet is terrific:
L is for the way you look at me/
O is for the only one I see…
It was bit easier today, but still doesn’t sound quite right to my unrefined ear.

Among today’s many celebrations, it’s Global Energy Independence Day. May America return to it in November.

It would be funny if it weren’t so sad. Headline from foxnews.com: “Clooney writes bombshell essay about Biden’s candidacy weeks after fundraising event.” Oops, my bad. I hope the elites are wrong about their view of the lack of intelligence of the general public.

From FN: “SCOTUS justice ripped over ‘ironic’ gun rights views after bodyguards shoot suspect.” Sotomayor’s selective outrage. All together: Do as I say, not as I do.

From FN: “Bipartisan group of senators reaches deal on bill to ban lawmakers from trading stocks.” How will the slimes get around that?

From an MSM story by Star Insider, edited by yours truly:
Beyonce has ancestral ties to Austrian composer Gustav Mahler.
Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame is a direct descendant of Romania’s Vlad the Impaler, the original Dracula. Now that is freaky.
Cindy Crawford has a connection to Ernest Hemingway and Charlemagne.
Harry Lloyd, Viserys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, is a descendant of Charles Dickens.
I left out connections to politicians.

Given the growing clamor for the resignation of Quid Pro Joe, the real polls must show Trump with a big lead. I hope so, but I still fear mail-in voting will carry the day for Biden or whomever. Does this mean Trump will be arrested soon?

A stiff breeze blowing through the shade made the Anti-Inflation Book Shop a pleasant task on this otherwise hot day. All the business was outgoing — yay! My thanks to the woman who paid her tab and overcompensated me for three more books in Russian, and to The Quiet Man, who bought Alfred Hitchcock’s Jamaica Inn (1939) and to the woman who purchased the remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2014), both on DVD; and to the young man who took home an instructional English-Russian tome.
