In a Pickle

Difficult to contemplate, headline from nypost.com: “Jeff Bezos to marry fiancée Lauren Sanchez in lavish $600M Aspen wedding: report.” Even a paltry one million, pocket change for him compared to 95% of the rest of us, seems lavish.

From NYP: “What a hoot: Owl descends chimney and perches atop family Christmas tree.” Photo from Google Images:

From NYP: “Woman celebrates 106th birthday with Fireball Whisky shot.” Ah salute.

From an NYP article by Brooke Kato, edited by yours truly “With a scam known as ‘brushing,’ cybercriminals will ship packages with no return address that contain a QR code, prompting the confused recipient to scan it in hope of revealing the sender… the code could expose sensitive information from smartphones or download malicious software onto devices.” These cats are diabolical — and relentless.

I break my pro sports silence to report on a league I didn’t know existed. Excerpt from an article by Amber Harding at outkick.com: “… the average pay of the more than 60 women on the PPA Tour and Major League Pickleball in 2024 was $260,000. That is more than any WNBA player earns yearly and more than double the average salary of NWSL athletes (soccer).” Doesn’t the WNBA’s Caitlin Clark make millions? Anyway, the game looks like a lot of fun. I wish I was young enough to give it a good go.

Last night while channel hopping I came across an episode of the ten part series The First Lady (2022). I was wracking my brain trying to figure out who was playing Eleanor Roosevelt. Could it possibly be Gillian Anderson, my beloved Scully of The X-Files? Bingo. What a contrast. I didn’t stay with it, as there’s more than enough politics to endure in our lives. Photos from GI:

Despite brilliant sunshine and less wind, I passed on the Anti-Inflation Book Shop for the second straight day, as the temperature hovered around 20. Am I getting smarter or softer?
