In Brief

RIP, headline from nypost.com: “City removes last-standing public payphone from NYC street.” “Operator, I’ve been cut off.”

Also from NYP out of Sacramento: “California gas is so expensive that cops offered fuel gift cards in exchange for guns.” Average current price per gallon is $6.06. The GC is worth $50. 134 guns were swapped.

No surprise, headline from newsmax.com: “FBI: Active Shooter Incidents Rose Over 50 Percent Last Year.”

Another gem from the Goombah:

An unfriendly wind was blowing along Avenue Z. Fortunately it didn’t put a crimp in sales. My thanks to The Quiet Man, who bought two vampire novels; and to Lou, who jumped on a bunch of three-for-a-dollar bootleg DVDs; and to the Latino gentleman who pulled up on his bike and, as he has so often done, overcompensated me for a bunch of DVDs, half of which were not bootlegs; and to the woman who took home three hardcovers in Russian.
