In Brief
The King of Monsters, Tokyo, photo by Richard A Brooks/AFP/Getty Images, posted at theguardian.com:
Headline from nypost.com: “Out of control Gang leader named ‘Barbeque’ is now most powerful man in Haiti — as US evacuates Americans.” At present it seems foolish to believe the state of the world, let alone of that misbegotten country will improve. Recall that the island, Hispaniola, is occupied by two countries, the other the Dominican Republic. Hopefully the madness will not spread east.
From NYP, environmental paranoia continues: “Raked over the coals: NYC burns pizzerias with new rule cutting smoky pollutants by 75%: ‘You’re going after pizza?’” The most harmful pollutant is politicians.
Excerpt from an NYP editorial, edited by yours truly: “The University of Virginia has at least 235 employees under its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) banner, estimated cost: $20 million. The top staffer takes home $587,340 including benefits. Glenn Youngkin, governor of Virginia, earns $175,000.” And I’m not saying he’s underpaid. All politicians are grossly overpaid.
I went out to the corner where I set up the Anti-Inflation Book Shop each day weather allows, hoping the wind wouldn’t be as severe as forecast. It was. Still, I had to tear myself away, especially since the sun was shining.
