In Short

Great news out of Missouri, headline from nypost.com: “Baby girl born 4 months early and just 14 ounces finally goes home in time for first Christmas: ‘She is our gift’.” And she seems thrilled to be here. Photo from Google Images:

Excerpt from an NYP editorial: “…New research indicates exhaled human breath can contain small, elevated concentrations of methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O), both of which contribute to global warming. The research, from the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, reveals we’re all climate criminals, just like how it turned out a few years ago that we’re all racists.” The human comedy never ceases. I occasionally suffer guilt about past actions. I refuse to feel any over such nonsense.

Given the forecast, I expected to spend nearly all of today’s session of the floating book shop in the car trying to keep warm. The absence of wind and abundant sunshine allowed me to spend the entire time outside, making it very satisfying, especially when Gordie and Andy F-Bomb stopped and had a lengthy conversation about building models. My thanks to the gentleman who rolled back his SUV so I could take the crucial lead spot on the corner of Av. Z & E. 13th, and to the kind folks who donated and bought. Here’s what sold: five books in Russian, a pictorial on an Oriental Art auction; one on Valerie Bernard, who I was unable to find any info on; The Return of the Real: The Avante-Garde at the End of the Century by art critic Hal Foster; a collection of short stories by Anton Chekhov; When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? by George Carlin; and Hidden Currents by Christine Feehan. I am blessed.

Here are two photos from GI included in The Return of the Real. First up: Painted Bronze by Jasper Johns, 1960:

1961 Andy Warhol window display at Bonwit Teller, located at 6th Av. & 18th, which closed in 2000:
