In the News
AOC is drawing more press than anyone, most of it negative. I had to laugh when an article in today’s NY Post revealed that her mom left New York because of its high property tax. Here, she was paying ten grand annually. In Florida, she is paying only $600. And this only a day after AOC was spotted in a gas guzzling SUV. “Do as I say, not as I do.” She fits perfectly into the swamp. She isn’t the first hypocrite in office, and certainly won’t be the last.
What kind of madness would allow someone who had opened fire on a city street to be released on $10,000 bail? I don’t care that he’s only 16. He belongs behind bars.
Although I have not seen much of Luke Perry’s work, I am saddened by the passing of one so young. It is a reminder of how quickly it can all change, and how lucky we above ground are. RIP, sir. Well done.
RIP King Kong Bundy, 61, who entertained fans throughout the world. He was huge, listed at six-four, 458 pounds, although stats from the wacky world of pro wrestling should always be taken with a grain of salt. The highlight of his career came at Wrestlemania II when he squared off in the main event in a steel cage against Hulk Hogan, who was at the peak of his popularity. Given his ring name, he was a natural to be cast as a relative of Al Bundy on a couple of episodes of Married with Children. Thank you, sir.
It was a beautiful winter day of unfettered sunshine. I set up shop at Bay Parkway and 85th and didn’t have to retreat to the car even once to warm up. My thanks to the gentleman who bought an Ivan Turgenev story collection, and to the young woman who bought five books in Russian; and to the elderly one who chose one; and to the middle age one who selected Long Road to Mercy by David Baldacci. I had a visit from John, 58, who recently did a one-year stretch at a federal prison. He said he used to boost cars back in the day, and had a lucrative run as a criminal. He also came into a lot of money when his parents died, and the apartment building they owned was sold. He split the huge pay day with his three sisters. He was carrying a plastic bag that held a pint bottle of either gin or vodka. He was moving constantly, which had me wondering if cocaine was part of his mix. He claims to be spending $400 a day on drugs, booze and hookers, despite have a girlfriend. He’s been to rehab eight times. I said the ninth might be the charm… As I was packing up, Bad News Billy showed, dressed in a smart suit, freshly shaved, hair combed neatly, a huge contrast from his usual persona. He was on his way to Jersey to meet a woman who runs a TV show. He’s going to pitch his patented idea to her. He asked for a book to impress her, and selected a bio of Einstein, an excellent choice for which he overcompensated me. Thanks, my friend, and may your news now be good.
