Initiative
An article in today’s NY Post reports that Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance took the initiative to have backlogged rape kits tested, and it has led to 186 arrests and 64 convictions nationwide. Kudos.
Would the college bribes scandal resonate at all if not for the inclusion of Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin? Is it worse than legacy admissions at Ivy league schools or quotas that exclude the more deserving?
Rumors had been swirling for awhile, so it wasn’t that surprising that the Giants traded OBJ, especially given his attitude. Is it a mistake? Time will tell, although I’m sure he’ll flourish with the Browns, a team on the rise. That move overshadowed the colossal signing of RB Le’Veon Bell by the Jets, another team that may be in for better times.
A Nebraska family sculpted a Ford Mustang entirely out of snow, and a cop had some fun ticketing it. Here are some pics:
Here’s part three of President Trump’s accomplishments as listed at the WOR Radio webpage of Mark Simone, edited by yours truly:
Negotiated a new trade agreement between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to replace NAFTA. USMCA includes the strongest-ever provisions on labor, environmental, digital and intellectual property protections.
Renegotiated the U.S.–Korea Free Trade Agreement to preserve and grow jobs in the American auto industry and increase American exports.
Filed a withdrawal notification with the Universal Postal Union, launching a one-year negotiation to secure fair international postal rates for American mailers.
Expanded market access for American agricultural producers. Argentina has opened to American pork and beef, Brazil to American beef, Japan to lamb and Idaho chipping potatoes, South Korea to American poultry.
Authorized $12 billion to aid farmers affected by unfair retaliatory tariffs.
Withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which incentivized outsourcing.
In 2017 oversaw 82 anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations.
American steel and aluminum jobs are coming back following tariffs to protect domestic industries that are vital to national security.
Imposed tariffs to protect American-made washing machines and solar products that were hurt by import surges.
My thanks to the kind folks who bought books in English and Russian today. The most interesting purchases were by a young man who gushed about having found a copy of Henry Miller’s Tropic of Cancer, and by Mike, who selected Kafka by David Zane Mairowitz, illustrated by the renowned Robert Crumb. Here’s a panel from the book:
