Innovations & More

I watched a terrific video at youtube about innovations. It listed ten. I’ve cut it to five. The first is the most amusing, a UK bus that runs on human waste. Riders claim there is no foul odor. I’m surprised busybodies haven’t complained about the art work:

Here’s a patch that makes people “invisible” to mosquitoes. It is being distributed free in third world countries, where disease bearing insects are a major problem:

Sometimes an ingenious idea is so simple it’s a wonder it wasn’t implemented decades ago. This is a net a town in Australia attaches to drainage pipes that traps everything but water. A lot of what’s caught can be recycled:

Here’s a device that contains a filter that cleans drinking water. It too is being distributed in the third world, where filtration is lacking. It is also a great safety device for campers and hikers:

And here are disposable, biodegradable smart phone batteries made of cardboard:

Finally, here’s an inflatable bike helmet that opens instantaneously just like a car’s airbag. Unfortunately, it can be used only once:

This morning radio talk show host Mark Simone made an interesting point about the “Deep State,” also referred to as the “Permanent Government.” He said the various departments — state, defense, agriculture, etc. — employ about a million and a half people. Some wield a significant amount of power without ever having to face voters.

My thanks to the kind folks who bought books in Russian, especially Marina, who insisted on paying for the three she chose despite having donated five; and to Wolf, who purchased Fire and Fury by Michael Wolf, at least the fifth copy of the anti-Trump screed I’ve sold; and to the woman who purchased a Barron’s Regents Review on biology for her daughter; and to Alice, who selected Look Again by Lisa Scottoline; and to the young man who went home with Billionths of a Lifetime, the 1100th copy of my books to sell, counting Kindles and web sales. The guy asked me an unusual question: “Did you ever watch anyone being killed?” Sounds like he has a story to tell.
