RIP comedian Gallagher, 76. Born Leo Anthony Gallagher in North Carolina, his family moved to Florida because he was asthmatic. He earned a degree in chemical engineering from the University of South Florida, but after college began working as a road manager for comic/musician Jim Stafford. He was soon performing himself. The prop comic did more than 3500 live shows during his career, which spanned 1969–2022, gleefully smashing thousands of watermelons with his sledgehammer. His 13 TV comedy specials is second most all-time behind George Carlin’s 14. He appeared on The Tonight Show, The Mike Douglas Show and The Merv Douglas Show. From a FN article by Yael Halon: “The series finale of Paramount+ “The Good Fight” left social media users stunned on Thursday for featuring a plot in which a character claimed to be sexually assaulted by Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, only to confess he was lying later on in the show.” And why was he lying? To give Trump a boost. Using real names to this extent in a fictional context takes free speech to a point I guess I should have expected, given the political climate. America’s civil war will have/has many fronts.

How many non-partisan citizens of the USA still have faith in the integrity of the elections? Arizona, Nevada and Alaska challenge it. It is a joke no one is laughing at. (Hate to end a sentence with a preposition, but sometimes it’s the best option.)

The rain moved in earlier than expected, putting the kibosh on the floating book shop after only a half hour. It’s the type of day when working on a new literary work is heaven sent. I’ve completed six pages of the second draft of Coincidence. It has expanded by a page and a half. I hope that rate of growth continues so that it will be a novel rather than a novella.
