Jokes on Us

More evidence that America’s soul is sick, headline from nypost.com: “Shooting deaths among US kids soared 50% during pandemic.”

Excerpt from an NYP editorial on one of the era’s most fascinating topics, the liberalization of marijuana laws: “… smoke-shop robberies rose from 251 in 2021 to 599 last year, and continue to soar.” According to the piece, roughly 1400 are unlicensed and thus easy targets for criminals who know the owners will be reluctant to go to the police.

This headline from newsmax.com contradicts the Biden administration’s claim of reduction: “CBO: Federal Deficit Increased $1.1 Trillion in Past 6 Months.” The national debt is roughly $32.5 trillion.

Liberals must be thrilled, headline from foxnews.com: “Walmart closing 4 Chicago stores, blaming millions in annual losses.”

Also from FN, sad but a win for the good guys: “Philadelphia concealed gun holder acted in self-defense, fatally shooting attacker at cemetery: DA.” This despite being hit in the jaw, a hand and a leg, according to the article by Emma Colton.

Great weather, nice results for the floating book shop, the outgoing much more than the incoming today. My thanks to those who bought, donated and swapped, especially Gonzo, who I hadn’t seen in months and who purchased Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, The Virus Hunters by Bobby Akart, Replay by Mandy Lawrence, Targeted by Stephen Hunter, Winter’s Child by Margaret Coel, Down a Dark Road by Linda Castillo, and The War Planners by W.E.B. Griffin; and to Cabbie, who chose Day of Reckoning by Jack Higgins and Echo Park by Michael Connelly; and to the young lady who selected a large tome on SAT prep; and to the ladies who combined to buy four titles in Russian; and to Ira, who took home this gem:
