Joys & Sorrows

From a foxnews.com article by Daniella Genovese, edited by yours truly: There’s a cool annual ritual in Hershey, Pa.. The Bears, minor league hockey affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals, hold a charity event. After the first goal of the game is scored, fans hurl stuffed animals onto the ice, which are donated to kids in need. This year there were more than 52,000. Kudos to all involved.

Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli’s The Man of Sorrows, painted circa 1500, has sold for $45.4 million at a Sotheby’s auction in NYC, the winning bid phoned in.

Amusing headline from newsmax.com: “‘Scheduling Conflicts’ to Keep Pennsylvania Dem Candidates From Biden’s Visit.” Quid Pro Joe is becoming persona non grata to his own kind.

Here’s another droll one from foxnews.com: “13 Senate Democrats voted against Black female judge nominated by Trump.” She was appointed in the northern district of Texas. Among the naysayers were the Empire State’s Upchuck Schumer and non-entity Kirsten Gillibrand.

A bit of progress on the literary front. My bank statement reflected a royalty for a book sale. Because business was much better than usual this year at the floating book shop, I have not been to an ATM since April and my savings account reflects a big gain in 2021. Granted, I’m not a spender, but I hadn’t had such a rise in at least ten years. Unfortunately, January of 2022 will see half the return it did last year. The weather induced hiatus began earlier than expected due to today’s flurries. Right now a foot of snow is predicted for the city. Parking, always a problem in NYC, will be even more difficult for a while. I dare not complain, as I received sobering perspective through two sorrowful messages on Facebook this morning. My former doctor, younger than me, has passed away, and an old female friend, also younger, is very ill, which is breaking the heart of my muse, who has in effect been her caretaker for many years. Our friendship began in the late ‘70’s at John Dewey H. S.. I had not heard from them until the past few years. I so look forward to their posts and responses to mine.
