RIP guitarist/songwriter Robbie Robertson, 80, founding member of The Band. Born in Toronto to factory workers, he began his professional career in 1956. He gained experienced playing rockabilly with Ronnie Hawkins. He joined Levon Helm’s band and was hired by Bob Dylan for a 1965-’66 tour that included Australia and Europe. Although the members had been performing together for a while, the legendary group known as The Band became official in 1968 with the release of the LP Music From Big Pink. In 1969 they played at both Woodstock and the Isle of Wight Festival, and on The Ed Sullivan Show. Six albums followed through 1977. The Last Waltz, released in ’78, had fives sides of live music and one of studio recordings. The group reunited in the ‘90’s and released three CDs. They did not have any big sellers during either run, but critics lauded them. Martin Scorsese’s movie was hailed and listed among the greatest concert films. Robertson released five solo albums and worked with artist such as Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison. Among his most popular songs: The Weight, Up on Cripple Creek and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. There are eleven titles under his name at IMDb in the category of Music Department, many in collaboration with Scorsese. He starred in Carny (1980), which he wrote based on his own experiences, and produced and supplied the soundtrack. He also appeared in The Crossing Guard (1995). He was nominated for five Grammys and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, and was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011. He is the author or co-author of three books, including the autobio pictured below. He was a father of three. For more, visit his Wiki profile. Photo from Google Images:

Forgive me while I beat the dead horse. Headline from a nypost.com op-ed piece by John Stossel: “Scientist admits the ‘overwhelming consensus’ on the climate change crisis is ‘manufactured’.” And excerpts: “She says scientists have an incentive to exaggerate risk to pursue ‘fame and fortune.’…” “That’s what we’ve got now: a massive government-funded climate alarmism complex.” To be fair, there seem to be a heckuva of a lot of wildfires these days, although I doubt any carbon measures would curb it. Humans need to adapt, as they always have.

Headline from foxnews.com: “RFK Jr’s campaign renews Secret Service protection demand after FBI killed man who allegedly threatened Biden.” Yes, he should be protected. In the meantime, if he gets no help from the Feds, he should hire private guards. He’s a Kennedy. He should have the money to finance protection.

The floating book shop was reduced to a half session by sprinkles. My thanks to my Constant Benefactress, who bought My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, and to the gentleman who purchased three vinyl EPs by disco artists with whom I was completely unfamiliar.
