RIP Shirley Knight, 83, who had a long, illustrious career on the big and small screen and the stage. She received two Oscar nominations for supporting roles, three Golden Globe nominations, winning for Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995), a TV movie; seven Emmy nominations, winning three, for the aforementioned as well guest shots on NYPD Blue and Thirty Something; and two Tony nominations, winning for Best Actress in a Featured Role for Kennedy’s Children. There are 184 titles under her name at IMDb, which includes appearances on popular TV fare such as Desperate Housewives, The Fugitive and Surfside 6. Her career spanned 1955–2018. Here’s a quote attributed to her: “There’s a great difference between being popular and being an artist.” She was both. Well done, Madam. Thank you.

The University of Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor was a two-time unanimous All-American and Doak Walker Award winner as college football’s best running back. He’s expected to go in the first or second round of the NFL draft. He’s also preparing for life post-football, announcing a partnership with Toppers, a pizzeria, that includes co-ownership of four Madison franchise locations. “… you have to make sure you set yourself up for after football because the time span is very short,” he told Yahoo Sports. Kudos, sir. Here he is in action for the Badgers:

At first people were discouraged from wearing medical masks, which I suppose reflected the fear that medical personnel were facing a shortage. Now masks are said to be crucial to stop the spread of the virus, although they cannot protect one from getting it. Today I read an article stating that medical gloves do more to spread the virus than protect the individual wearing them. It all seems like so much guesswork.

A friend sent me an email filled with Corona humor. Here’s my favorite:
“Hormel made their first batch of Spam in 1937. The company has just announced that due to hoarding consumers, they are going to make a second batch.”
