RIP Peter Bogdanovich, 82, who wore several hats in a long Hollywood career that began in 1958 and will conclude posthumously. Born in Kingston NY, he began as an actor, studying with the legendary Stella Adler, appearing on TV and in summer stock. He segued for a while into film programming at the Museum of Modern Art, championing greats such as John Ford, Howard Hawks and Orson Welles. In 1968 he directed his first movie, the critically acclaimed Targets. That began an impressive run that includes The Last Picture Show (1971), What’s Up, Doc?(1972) and Paper Moon (1973) , receiving an Oscar nomination for the first as both director and, shared with the Larry McMurtrey, writer. He also won a Grammy for Best Long Form Music Video: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin’ Down a Dream (2007). There are 58 titles under his name in the category of Actor, including 14 episodes of The Sopranos, of which he directed another. There are 34 credits in the category of Director, 14 of Writer, 14 of Producer, three of Editor, one of Cinematographer, the latter four all originally uncredited. Six actors he directed received Oscar nominations, three winning. His Wiki page lists twelve books he wrote. Awesome, sir. Thank you.

To anyone unaware, despite what the mainstream media and Dems say, not one of the 700+ morons arrested for the Capitol riot has been charged with insurrection. The FBI found no evidence of an organized plot, and said so months ago. No weapons were seized — unless pocket knives are counted.

Amusing headline from nypost.com: “Get outta town: Florida resident tells ‘woke’ New Yorkers to head back north.”

Another gem from the Goombah:

I spent most of today’s session of the floating book shop in the car, out of the cold wind. I was sure it would be a goose egg, but a woman wheeling her 94-year-old ward bought a bunch of titles in Russian, and a couple followed immediately, purchasing Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. My thanks, and also to the woman who donated two more large paperback mysteries.
