RIP NFL Hall of Fame QB Len Dawson, 87. A three sport star in high school in Ohio, the ninth of eleven children, he chose Purdue over Ohio St.. As a sophomore he led the nation in passing efficiency and also played defense and did the kicking. He was all-Big-Ten in ‘55-’56, and third team All-America his senior season. He was drafted in the first round of the ’57 draft by the Steelers, who traded him to the Browns in ’59. Cleveland eventually released him. He signed with the Dallas Texans of the AFL in 1962 and immediately flourished, named MVP that season. The team moved to Kansas City in ’63 and became the Chiefs. Dawson was the engineer of three straight league championships, and led the team to Super Bowl I, a loss to the mighty Packers of Vince Lombardi. Three years later he was MVP of Super Bowl IV, a win over the Vikings, the last game before the merger. Dawson also achieved the following: AFL Championship MVP (1966), two-time First-team All-AFL, two-time Second-team All-AFL, six-time AFL All-Star, four-time AFL passing touchdowns leader, six-time AFL passer rating leader, seven-time AFL completion percentage leader, AFL All-Time Team, Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame, his #16 retired. He threw 239 TD passes and rushed for nine more. He retired at 40 in 1975. From 1977 to 2001 Dawson hosted HBO’s Inside the NFL. He also did analysis on TV and radio. He was married to his high school sweetheart from 1954 until her death in 1978. He later remarried and was parted from his second wife by his death. He is a father of two. Awesome, sir. This nypost.com headline will bring a smile to the face of NYC drivers fed up with the arrogance of certain bicyclists: “Berserk biker: Wrong-way cyclist goes ‘insane’ after crashing into another biker.” The wrong way rider broke the other guy’s cell phone and took off. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

NYP headline: “Stop telling critics to leave NY, Gov. Hochul — Dems have driven out too many already!” Isn’t that the strategy in order to insure perpetual rule by the left?

Foxnews.com headline out of Australia: “Nightclub bans staring without ‘verbal consent’.”

The Madrid driver of the car in the photo below tested positive for cocaine. Photo from Google Images:

Bad luck continued with my own car today. I hadn’t moved it since I ran over a bottle last week. I thought I’d gotten away unscathed, but when I pulled into another parking spot I noticed an odd slant to the car. Sure enough, the rear tire on the driver’s side is flat.

Not much action at the floating book shop on this gorgeous day, and all of it came late. My thanks to the woman who bought The Pelican Brief by John Grisham, and to the one who purchased a book in Russian; and to the one who took home an eponymous CD by American Idol winner Taylor Hicks.
