Let the Sunshine In

Here’s a “Who’da thunk it?” headline from nypost.com: “Coronavirus crime worries are making New Yorkers want guns.” Of course, it is extremely hard to get one in NYC — legally. The accompanying article points out: “The FBI reported a 300% increase in gun sales across the country in March compared to the same period a year ago.” The worse case scenario for America is scary. Despite the waning number of infections and deaths, I sense people are becoming more paranoid. The co-op I live in has instituted a mask edict. At the height of the pandemic, March & April, no one in the buildings was required to wear one on the premises. So far I haven’t been flagged for not wearing one… Here’s a bit of good news to counter the gloom: “Walmart and other superstores continue coronavirus-fueled hiring spree.”… And here’s hopeful news: Georgia Governor Brian Kemp took a lot of flack last month, even from President Trump, for giving businesses the green light to reopen. Yesterday he announced the state had the lowest number of hospitalized Corona patients in a month. May the trend continue. And its neighbor to the south has also been impressive. According to an article at foxnews.com, edited by yours truly: 5000 have died from COVID-19 in NY nursing homes since March 1st, three times the number of COVID-19 deaths (1669) in all of Florida, which is comparable in size and population to the Empire State, and which also has major urban centers and a large percentage of seniors… Here’s how laughable things have become for yours truly. My supply of crosswords is almost depleted. I just ordered a collection of Sunday L.A. Times puzzles from Ebay. I wouldn’t buy one that bears the name of the NY Times or AARP, which I considered left wing organizations.

Why is a computer so smart? It listens to its motherboard.
If you keep making that face, it’ll freeze that way.
One day you’ll thank me.
Because I said so, that’s why!
Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.
If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?
Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall.
I’m not asking, I’m telling.
When you have kids, I hope they’re just like you.
Don’t you use that tone with me.
And my all-time favorite: You’re gonna put somebody’s eye out!
And I have to include one in Italian that I heard a time or two: “Fatte a croce!” Translation: “Make the sign of the cross.”

Happy Mother’s day to our better angels.
