Literary Trivia & More

From time to time I post fun literary facts. I don’t believe I’ve ever used any of the following, culled from https://interestingliterature.com:
Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, lived next door to Mark Twain.
Evelyn Waugh’s first wife’s name was Evelyn. They were known as “He-Evelyn” and “She-Evelyn.”
Thomas Hobbes, author of Leviathan, who described human life as “nasty, brutish and short,” lived to 91.
Before finding fame as a novelist, The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown was a pop singer. One of his solo albums was called Angels and Demons. (To my chagrin, I was unable to find any album covers, although there is a site where his songs can be heard: https://www.buzzfeed.com/expresident/dan-browns-singing-career
On his marriage document in 1582, William Shakespeare’s name was spelled “William Shagspeare.”
Dr Seuss included the word “contraceptive” in a draft of his children’s book Hop on Pop to make sure his publisher was paying attention.

In 1951 William Burroughs, author of Naked Lunch, accidentally shot his common-law wife dead at a party during a drunken game of “William Tell.” (Handgun instead of crossbow.)

Apparently, most Californians approve of the state’s strict environmental regulations that have raised costs. Some are smug about it, so it’s wonderfully ironic that President Trump is using a branch of government that most of the Sunshine State’s citizens blindly back. Here’s a snippet from an article at nypost.com: “President Trump said Wednesday night that the EPA will be issuing a “notice” to San Francisco over environmental issues caused by the city’s homeless population.”

Here’s the picture of the day. It’s from 2001. It’s liberal icon Pierre Trudeau in brown face (and hand). He has apologized. I’m sure the mainstream media will let this blow over quickly.

And here’s another good one taken yesterday on the California-Mexico border — Trump autographing the wall:

My thanks to the woman who bought Jonathan Kellerman’s Time Bomb and a book on breakfast and brunch; and to the other who purchased a huge tome on desserts; and to Wolf, who went home with a Bible geared toward kids; and to Michael, who selected two romance paperbacks; and to the woman who chose a children’s book.
