Low & High Levels

The costs of WWII have not ended, as revealed in an article by Rachel Paik at foxnews.com, edited by yours truly: Dozens of sunken German warships have resurfaced in the current low water levels of the Danube River, which flows through ten European countries. The wrecks are located in Serbia. Many are believed to contain tons of ammunition and explosives. The removal of one, de-mined, cost the Serbs $30 million. Photo from Google Images:

Headline from FN: “Majority of college students suffering from mental illness, anxiety and depression on the rise: study.” It was conducted by Boston University during 2020-’21, and attributes much of the problem to lockdowns. I stayed home three months in 2019, then, getting loopy, returned to selling books curbside, so far with no ill effects. I’ve rarely donned a mask outdoors.

Also from FN: “Study suggests alcohol and smoking cause almost half of global cancer deaths.” According to the accompanying article by Phillip Nieto, a high body mass index was another factor. Anyone surprised? The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded the study.

Not much action at the floating bookshop on this gorgeous day. My thanks to the gentleman who bought the huge prayer book in Hebrew, the second to sell in as many days; and to Lou, who purchased Titanic (1997) and Gladiator (2000) on VHS; and to Wolf, who took home In Trump Time: A Journal of America’s Plague Year by Peter Navarro; and to the woman who selected a paperback dictionary; and to Alice, who donated a hardcover thriller.
