Luck & More

Headline from newsmax.com: “Trump: Abolishing Debt Ceiling Is ‘Smartest Thing’.” Absolutely, given that it is raised every time there’s a problem.
Headline from foxnews.com: “CNN pundit calls lies about Biden’s health ‘the biggest scandal in America’.” It was obvious before the 2020 election. Shove your phony mea culpas where the sun doesn’t shine.
New Tolerance Campaign Announces 2024 Worst of the Woke Awards:
The Acolyte, Star Wars TV spinoff, cancelled after its one season.
Super Bowl LVIII. Pro sports may be the biggest panderers of all.
The Olympics. At least it has dropped all pretense to amateurism.
Harley Davidson. The CEO of the iconic American brand tried to make it sustainable.
Columbia. Allowed pro-terrorists to dictate terms.
Harvard. Cancelled classes for two days after DT’s victory.
Mattel. Gender neutral doll.
Penzeys Spices. A shop known for promotional events such as “Republicans Are Racists Weekend.”
Jaguar. Commercial filled with androgynous models and completely devoid of cars.
From 25 of the greatest final shots in Hollywood history by Nicole Johnson at msm.com. I selected three. I would not argue that the others I recognized aren’t iconic, it’s just that these touch or fascinate me much more than the others. Photos from MSM. First up, Katharine Ross & Dustin in The Graduate (1967). I think of it as “What do we do now?”
The Third Man (1949), Joseph Cotten’s character gets the cold shoulder from Valli’s, an unrequited love many experience, captured perfectly:
Psycho (1960). Tony Perkins imparts a chilling sense of menace:
It was the luckiest and most satisfying session of the year for the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. I expected a rainout. Dreading the thought of staying home all day, and since it wasn’t raining, I headed to the nearby viaduct, hoping to put in an hour or so before the cold got to me. My thanks to the teenage girl who overcompensated me for I Love My Mommy, Toddler Books by Page Publications; and to the young man who bought something for his baseball fanatic brother: Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season by Stewart O’Nan and Stephen King; and to the angel who purchased two pieces of 3D art, The Death and Life of Superman by Roger Stern, and CDs by Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Harry Connick Jr. and Faith Hill. If I ever again complain about anything, slap me.
