Mad World

The following items further illustrating the madness of this world have been culled from nypost.com. Headline: “Texas jury rules against divorced dad trying to stop 7-year-old son’s gender transition.” Why not wait until the kid’s 18? What if he changes his mind down the road? What’s the hurry? Sheesh… “Indian man arrested for eating sloth bear penises in bid to improve libido.” Baked, deep fried, sauteed? Do they taste like chicken? Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it… Proctor & Gamble subsidiary Always is caving to pressure to eliminate the female symbol from its feminine hygiene products. Someone tweeted: “There are non-binary and trans folks who still need to use your products too you know!” It will soon debut a line of “gender neutral” menstrual products. Huh? Maybe the name of the line should be changed to Sometimes… In an op-ed piece, Miranda Devine suggests that the crashes of Boeing 737s may be attributed to the company’s efforts to appease environmentalists by creating more fuel efficient aircraft. Here’s a headline from foxnews.com that manifests government efficiency: “British officials create 41-mile detour for 65-foot-long road closure.”

Here’s more crazy from an article at FN, edited by yours truly: A parking space in Hong Kong has sold for nearly $1 million, the most expensive ever. It’s located in a 73-story luxury office tower. The price works out to more than $7000 per square foot, roughly three times the median home price in the city, which has the most expensive real estate in the world. Several spots in NYC have listed for $1 million the past few years, but final transaction prices are unknown.

The Washington Nationals are looking like a team of destiny in the mode of the giant killer ’69 Mets, ’87 Twins and ’88 Dodgers, but as Yogi Berra may or may not have said: “It ain’t over until it’s over.”

My thanks to the woman who purchased Leah’s Journey by Gloria Goldreich, The Mark of the Assassin by Daniel Silva, and four childrens’ books; and to the one who bought Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson; and to Ira, who selected a travel guide on London; and to the guy with the little boy’s voice, who chose Be Happy Without Being Perfect: How to Break Free from the Perfection Deception by Alice D. Domar Ph.D; and to my constant benefactress and the Braniac’s home attendant, who each dropped off a number of non-fiction titles; and to the woman who donated four in Russian.
