Making Moves

I wonder if that includes the look in his eyes — talk about a Game Face! To put this in a sort of perspective, during my most prolific periods, I wrote or edited two-and-a-half to three hours per night. No wonder I haven’t gotten anywhere in the literary sphere.

I’ve admired Elvis Costello’s work since he rode the New Wave as front man of The Attractions. The following info from an NYP article by Hannah Frishberg ups that. The first track, Brutal, on 18-year-old Olivia Rodrigo’s album is said to sound a lot EC’s dynamic 1978 Pump It Up (“…Listen to the propaganda. Listen to the latest slander/There’s nothing underhand that she wouldn’t understand…”). When informed, the 66-year-old maven said: “It’s how rock and roll works. You take the broken pieces of another thrill and make a brand new toy. That’s what I did.” Kudos. Seems he’s come a long way from his notorious 1979 drunken barroom dust up with Bonnie Bramlett of Delaney and Bonnie fame. Maybe his wife, Diana Krall, has made a man of him. Listening to Rodrigo’s song, I hear similarity that would bother only busybodies and avaricious record execs. Here are the two artists:

This NYP headline nails the Dems’ strategy: “Biden’s ‘family’ plan is all about hooking the middle class on handouts.”

Headline from foxnews.com that’s sure to displease many congressman, pro athletes and business execs that kiss butt and look the other way: “China celebrates centenary of Communist Party that killed tens of millions.”

Finally good news out of the Windy City in terms of violence. Headline from FN: “Chicago murders, shootings down in June compared to last year.” Let’s hope it’s the start of a trend and not a blip.

Things couldn’t have worked out much better for the floating book shop on this first day of July, enabling me to pack up an hour early in deference to the ominous sky. It wasn’t nearly as hot as it’d been the past few days, but the humidity was high. It was awesome when the clouds rolled in and cooled everything off. I knew the session would be good when the MTA Lady showed. She’d always bought in bulk, did so again and, as usual, overcompensated me. My thanks, and also to the other kind folks who made purchases. Lief, et al.; Raja Yoga or Conquering the Internal Nature by Swami Vivekananda; and a book on finding Utopia.
