RIP Cooper “Harris” Andrews, 26, U.S. Marine vet killed in action in Ukraine. At least six other Americans have died in combat there.

RIP MLB mainstay Mike Shannon, 83. Born and raised in St. Louis, he was the Missouri High School Player of the Year in both football and basketball as a senior, the only athlete ever to win both awards in the same year. He signed with his hometown team in 1958. He played in three World Series, first in rightfield, then at thirdbase, the Cardinals winning two. He homered in each series. In 1970 he contracted nephritis, a kidney disease, ending his playing career. In nine seasons he hit .255 overall and socked 68 homers. In 1972 he went into the broadcast booth, where he remained until 2021. He worked for the Cardinals for 64 years. He is a member of their Hall of Fame and also of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. He owned two restaurants. He was a dad of six. Well done, Sir.

You get what you vote for redux, caption from nypost.com: “Thanks to a backroom deal, House members can now claim automatic reimbursement of $258 a night for lodging expenses and $79 a day for meals in DC — even if they don’t spend a dime.” Their pay is $174,000 per.

Excerpt from a foxnews.com article by Hanna Panreck: “The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights survey found that 74% of overall adults believed the news media was increasing the political divide in this country.” Although I agree with the findings, I’m surprised the figure is not in the ballpark of the 50–50 divide that characterizes America at present.

Each day during my guitar warmup, I bang out the three-chord opening of AC/DC’s Back in Black. I still have trouble with the tricky third despite having worked on it for months. Yesterday I decided to give the mid-song chord chorus a shot. A youtube video was useless, as it went too fast and the guy was playing fifths. I went to a tab site where it was set out all in major chords, the toughest the open B, 31 strokes in all, ending in G.

No luck selling books today.

Let’s end with a positive from Google Images, something I wish I’d been able to do once in my life.
