Meteoric
This may be the photo of the year. Mulder and Scully are on the case.
Here’s more news on the drug front, from an article at foxnews.com: Mexican cartel members — who for years have carried out large scale, hidden pot-growing operations in U.S. national parks in California — are poisoning water and wildlife through the use of illegal pesticides. I don’t know where the problem of the cartels is on the chart of things to do, but it’s high.
Cute headline from FN: “‘Subpoena Colada’: DC bars offer impeachment-themed drinks during first day of hearings.” The nonsense in the swamp must be driving many to drink.
Pop quiz: Who leads the NCAA in TD scores? It’s RB LeVante Bellamy of Western Michigan, my alma mater. I didn’t know that until moments ago. The young man has reached paydirt 21 times and rushed for 1284 yards so far in 2019, leading the Broncos to a 7–4 record and probable bowl berth. The senior from Indianapolis is only 5'9", 190 lbs.. It will be interesting to see if he’s drafted. Given the diminutive players who are lighting it up in the NFL, his size should not matter. Here he is in action:
I attended to a personal matter in an unheated venue this morning. As I walked to my car I wondered if it would be wise to open the floating book shop. I had lunch in the old Hyundai, heat blasting. I was only a mile from my alternate site on Bay Parkway & 85th. As I approached I looked at the flag hanging from the Chase bank. It was barely moving. The sun was unobstructed. There was no reason not to go to work, despite the cold. My thanks to the young woman who bought four romance novels in Russian, and to the middle age one who purchased three large paperbacks, one of them The Lost Wife by Alyson Richman. The highlight of the session was an appearance by Sasha’s grandma, who’s loving life in the new building in Coney Island in which she and her mom scored an apartment. She frequently goes up to the roof to watch the sun rise and set. The place even has a library. Still, she found four books to her liking among my Russian inventory. I wouldn’t accept any money from her, as she put a lot into my pocket through a donation of about 100 books as she was in the process of moving. She said she misses seeing me. I miss her as well. She is the epitome of the stereotypical positive, loving grandmother.
