Here’s a trend I hope doesn’t catch on — a jewel beard, photo from foxnews.com:

Jennifer O’Neill has graced magazine covers and the big and small screen since the early ‘70’s. My college friends were enthralled with Robert Mulligan’s Summer of ’42 (1972), while I, 22, was enthralled only with the young star’s incredible beauty. From the outside, O’Neill’s life seemed ideal. It was anything but, as revealed in an interview at FN.com. Here are highlights, which also include items from her page at Wiki, edited by yours truly: At 14, angered that she would have to give up her dog when the family moved, she attempted suicide by swallowing several of her mother’s pills. By 15 she was on the cover of Vogue, earning $80,000 annually. That year her horse threw her. She broke her neck and back. At 18 she married the first of eight husbands. At 22 she had an abortion, which she has come to deeply regret. Her daughter was reportedly sexually abused by her fifth husband. In 1982 she accidentally shot herself, the bullet tearing through her hip and stomach. She had nine miscarriages. She is a breast cancer survivor. She became a pro-life activist and a born-again Christian in 1986 at 38. These days she devotes herself to several charitable causes. Since 1999 she has written eight books, fiction and non. Her most recent screen appearance came in 2016. Her current marriage has lasted 24 years. She’s an inspiration. Kudos. Here are pics of her, past and present:

NFL Week One: Biggest flop: Browns and QB Baker Mayfield, routed at home by the Titans; Dishonorable Mention: alleged Super Bowl contender Bears; QB Mitch Trubiski showed no sign that his passing has improved… Giants: Secondary still absolutely clueless; to get beaten in coverage is one thing, to be nowhere in the vicinity of receivers so often is mind-boggling… Jets and Lions still killing their fans, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory or, in Detroit’s case, a tie… Dolphins seem as bad as predicted. What will the line be this weekend vs. the Pats, who look like they may go undefeated — and who won’t have to worry about facing the Giants in the Super Bowl?… In watching highlights at youtube, it seemed both the Seahawks and Chargers were outplayed at home yet somehow managed to win.

My thanks to Shelley, who bought five kids’ books for her niece, who lives in F-L-A; and also to the woman who purchased three paperback thrillers; and to the other who selected two books in Russian; and to Lynn, who donated four more Stephen King novels. The highlight of the session was a young mom who couldn’t wait to get home to read the book she got for her little guy, who seemed about one. How lucky he is to be so loved.
