Monday Meditations
According to talk radio host Mark Simone, in lieu of body bags, the Russians are cremating fallen soldiers in the field.
Headline from foxnews.com: “WH seeks to quash questions about Russia & China ‘conflicts of interest’ related to Hunter Biden.” Imagine the mainstream media feeding frenzy if it were a child of Trump.
Excerpt from a nypost.com editorial that illustrates perfectly what drives conservatives nuts about government business as usual: “Of more than $5.7 trillion in supposed virus-related spending, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget counts ‘a scant $682 billion — less than 12 percent — as health spending.’ That is, there was ‘plenty of money’ to fund this program for the uninsured; instead, state and local governments, schools and individuals were ‘showered’ with cash they didn’t really need. They then spent all that money and more, and ‘all we got for it was runaway inflation.’” Now congress wants $22 billion for Covid testing and treatments, warning of dire consequences if it doesn’t receive it… Here’s another example from an FN article by William Spruance & Matt Wall, edited by yours truly: In 2017 Apple reached an agreement with state and local officials in Iowa that gave the tech giant $213 million in public subsidies in exchange for 50 permanent jobs at a data center it would build. It was supposed to open in 2020. It is now scheduled to be completed in 2027. Apple reached a market value of $3 trillion in January. Welfare for the rich.
FN headline: “Major Dem-run city sees weekend shootings up 383% from 2021 while weekly number nearly doubles.” No surprise, it’s NYC… And this one: “In New Orleans, police probe 5 shootings within 10 hours.” Quid Pro Joe promised unity. At least he has it from criminals.
While the administration continues to pursue a deal with the world’s number one sponsor of terrorism, this happened recently, sub-headline from FN: “Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels hit several Saudi energy targets over the weekend.” Environmental extremists must be thrilled.
Good session for the floating book shop on this beautiful day. My thanks to the young man who jumped on Meditation for Dummies, and to the one who bought a collection of Isaac Asimov short stories and Sideways by Rex Pickett; and to the man and woman who each purchased a hardcover in Russian; and to the woman who took home five thin cook books; and to Revilo/Oliver who selected Kiss Daddy Goodbye, a thriller by Thomas Altman; Writing & Personality: Finding Your Voice, Your Style, Your Way by John K. DiTiberio and George H. Jensen; The Normal Personality: A New Way of Thinking about People by Steven Reiss; After the Death of a Child: Living with Loss through the Years by Ann K. Finkbeiner; Captivating: Unveiling The Mystery Of A Woman’s Soul by John Eldredge and Stasi Eldredge; What You Can Change . . . and What You Can’t: The Complete Guide to Successful Self-Improvement by Martin E.P. Seligman.
