Excerpt from a nypost.com editorial quoting writer David Mamet: “I believe that a Jew who votes for the Democrats is a damned fool.” It will be interesting to see how the vote goes. My hunch is old habits die hard. I believe Blacks have returned to the fold since the Harris ascendancy, if they’d left in the first place.
Before computers, eggheads had to write everything out by hand, as this terrific pic reminds us. It’s from an MSM.com array: 1960s Life in Photos: A Decade of Change, Style, and Fun, Story by Jacob Shelton:
RIP actor/comedian Angel Salazar, 68, who had been battling a heart issue and died in his sleep. Born in Cuba, he literally swam to the U.S. Guantanamo Bay Naval Base to seek political asylum. There are 65 titles under his name at IMDb, career spanning 1979 into the future, 17 works to be released posthumously. Oddly, after Carlito’s Way (1993), he did not appear on the big screen again until 2003, although he did do a few shorts. Other notable films in which he appeared: Where the Buffalo Roam (1980), Scarface (1983), Punchline (1988) and the documentary The Latin Legends of Comedy (2006). He did standup coast to coast and opened for the Beach Boys, Billy Ocean, Whitney Houston, Van Halen and The Miami Sound Machine. His stock phrase was “Sheck it out.” Never married, he was a father of one. Muy bien, Senor. Facts also from an article by Rahul at poptvculture.com. Photo from Google Images:
This is what Sam, a blogger, had to say in his Amazon review about By the Numbers by yours truly, which he rated five stars: “I am always impressed with the unique quality of Vic’s stories. Not only doesn’t he repeat himself despite compiling an impressively large body of work, but I can never say his fiction is derivative of anyone’s else’s writing — he’s a true original. I also like the supernatural vibe of many of Vic’s tales, like the ones in this book about a man being mistaken for his doppelgänger, and another dealing with the crazy behavior that emerges during an eclipse. I admire how his protagonists never whine or feel sorry for themselves despite life often seeming stacked against them, like the story in this collection about an actor doing whatever he has to in order to support himself so he can keep taking the stage and living his dream. His primary characters never lament being victims, choosing instead to soldier on and make the best of bad situations, which is what most people do in real life. He has a keen ability to capture a character’s internal thoughts and internalize their struggles without shame or pity.”
Thank you, Sir.
Great conditions again for the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. My thanks to those who donated stuff, and to the young cutie who overcompensated me for a hardcover in Russian; and to the gentleman who purchased The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss by Arthur Agatston M.D., and The Pelican Brief by John Grisham; and to the ladies who each bought a large 3D picture.
