Mosh

The first time I witnessed a mosh pit was at an Iggy Pop show at the Ritz in lower Manhattan, early ‘80s. Off to the side, I was laughing hysterically, too cowardly to join the fray. Some kids slammed into each other quite hard. I would characterize America as a giant mosh pit at present except for one thing — people are not smiling or having fun bashing each other verbally. Some pundits claim the armed forces have alienated white males. Is this headline from nypost.com more proof?: “US military offers legal migrants path to citizenship amid recruiting shortfall.” In the same vein, excerpt from an NYP editorial: “The Army, Navy, and Air Force will all miss their fiscal year 2023 enlistment goals after the Army fell 25% short the year before.”

Headline from newsmax.com: “CBS Poll: Trump’s GOP Primary Lead Grows to 38 Points After Indictment.” Not surprising, as many more folks become miffed at the witch hunt, the double standards.

From the city by the bay, headline from foxnews.com: “Fed up San Francisco residents forced to self-fund planters to block homeless encampments.” The greater outrage is that they have to do it all.

Most amusing headline of the day, from FN: “Maryland Dem grovels after saying Muslim kids against LGBTQ+ lessons aligned with ‘White supremacists’.” Politics makes strange bedfellows. It suddenly dawned on me that I didn’t know who came up with that famous phrase. Louis Dalrymple, 1866–1905, was a cartoonist for several publications, Puck one of them.

Here’s The Godfather of Punk, the great showman, confidently placing himself in the hands of his fans. Photo from GI:

Another cool day, a bit too windy, otherwise perfect for doing business curbside. My thanks to the woman who bought two volumes from George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series, and to Dina, who purchased Cure by Robin Cook, The Modigliani Scandal by Ken Follett, Saucer by Stephen Coonts, The First Patient by Michael Palmer and A Matter of Circumstance by Heather Graham.
