This doesn’t sound good, headline from nypost.com: “401(k) balances shrank in latest quarter as more Americans took ‘hardship withdrawals’.” Nor does this: “Hackers are taking over planes’ GPS — experts are lost on how to fix it.”

Dumb luck or insight? From an NYP article by Erich Richter, edited by yours truly: The Chargers’ Stone Smartt and the Panthers’ Tommy Tremble, backup TEs, each scored a touchdown on Sunday. A bettor laid $100 on the 63–1 parlay and won $6400.

Why did the libertarian businessman win election in Argentina? Inflation is 140% and nearly 40% of the population is classified as in poverty. Best of luck, Sir.

Interesting headline from newsmax.com: “Report: Gilgo Beach Killer’s Family Inks $1M Doc Deal.” I hope some of the cash finds its way to the victims’ families.

Visualize, NYP headline: “‘General Hospital’ Star Roger Howarth Dishes About The Surprise Phone Call Where He Learned He Was Getting Killed Off: “It Took A Second For Me To Let That Settle In”.’” By the way, Rog… Photo from Google Images:

I find this foxnews.com headline very amusing: “Rolling Stones tour sponsored by AARP as 80-year-old rocker Mick Jagger set to hit the road.”

RIP MLB mainstay Willie Hernandez, 69, taken by heart woes. Born in Puerto Rico, the seventh of eight children, he signed with the Phillies in 1973 and was a starting pitcher in the minors. He was acquired by the Cubs in ’76 and worked in relief. He was traded to Philadelphia in ’83 and helped lead the team to the NL pennant. He appeared in three games in the World Series, giving up zero hits and zero runs, the Orioles winning the championship. He was traded to the Tigers in ’84 and led them to the promised land, going 9–3 with 32 saves and a 1.92 ERA, earning the Cy Young and MVP awards, becoming only the third player in history (following Sandy Koufax and Denny McLain) to win the Cy Young, MVP and a World Series title in the same season. He played for Detroit until his retirement in ’89. In 13 seasons his record was 70–63, ERA 3.38, 147 saves. After his retirement he returned to Puerto Rico, where he operated a construction business and later owned a cattle ranch. He was a father of two. Awesome, Senor. Facts from Wiki, photo from GI:

Frustrated with the so-so reception of my TV antenna, I purchased a new one at Amazon after viewing several youtube videos on which is best. The feature that convinced me is the coaxial wire which, according to The Antenna Guy, is a must. The device cost only a bit more than $20 after taxes and shipping, so I was skeptical, especially since the leaf is half the size of the one I’d been using. I’m happy to say it’s a big improvement, bringing in 20 more stations and strengthening the signal of many. The only drawbacks so far are that the Fox series, including Movies!, is pixilating, and the ABC and WB stations remain absent. I bet they would come in if I were on a higher floor or facing the street. Still, overall it’s a significant gain… Appropriately, among the many things celebrated on 11/21, it’s World Television Day. Here’s a pic of the One For All from GI:

It was raw and gloomy today at the floating book shop. I spent most of the session in the car. My thanks to the middle age woman who donated three books, and to the young one who overcompensated me for Kill the Messenger by Tami Hoag, America’s First Daughter by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie and Dark Rivers of the Heart by Dean Koontz; and to Kinesha’s husband, who scanned the display with his cell phone, allowing her to choose The Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers, Do With Me What You Will by Joyce Carol Oates and four beautifully illustrated classics for kids; and to my Constant Benefactress, who purchased People Speak by Chaim Walder, the first in a series of at least 15 non-fiction works; and to Herbie, who took home this gem:
