Naps & Stuff

Here’s a surprising tidbit from an article at newsmax.com: “A gene therapy that makes use of an unlikely helper, the AIDS virus, gave a working immune system to 48 babies and toddlers who were born without one.” Is this a topsy-turvy world or what?

Here’s an NM headline that is yet another manifestation of the nation’s divide: “Gallup Poll: Half of America Says Taxes Are Too High.”

Also from NM, interesting poll results: “Americans Who Won’t Vaccinate Hits 26 Percent.” I’ve caved but do not object to those who resist. The situation has seemed a muddle since its early days.

Snippet from an article at foxnews.com by Joe Concha: “CNN went from more than 2.7 million viewers in primetime in the first month of the year to an average of less than 800,000 on Friday.”

Also from FN, article by Michael Hollan, in my own words: Folks were puzzled as to why there was a dryer sheet in their mailbox. Postmen use them to deter wasps from building a nest inside, as explained by a post on social media. Some restaurants put a few sheets under patio tablecloths.

Interesting temp job cited in an FN article by Ann W. Schmidt, edited by yours truly: “Mattress review company Eachnight is offering $1500 to folks to take a nap every day for a month. The “nap reviewers” must sleep alone and have strong English writing skills to record findings. Applicants must be at least 18. The deadline is May 31st. Visit the website to apply. I nap from three PM to four each day. Without one I’d fall asleep at about eight PM and wake at one AM. I can no longer sleep more than five hours at a stretch. And the nap’s no guarantee, as I might nod off a couple of times while watching TV — even if I’m enjoying a particular program or movie.

It was a gorgeous day to sell stuff curbside. My thanks to the three kind folks who donated books, and to the woman who bought a novel in Russian that had Robert Mitchum on the cover; and to the young woman who purchased a work of non-fiction whose title escapes me; and to the mom who took home ten bucks worth of kids books; and to the elderly woman who selected No Time for Tears, a novel by Cynthia Freeman; and to the young man who chose two CDs — a jazz compilation and The Crew Cuts Greatest HitsSh-Boom!
